Tucker's Older Housing Stock
Tucker is one of the older communities in this part of metro Atlanta, and its housing reflects that history. Neighborhoods like Northlake, Tucker Heights, Idlewood, and the streets around Henderson Park and Main Street Tucker are largely made up of brick ranch homes from the 1950s-70s, many with original or once-replaced roofs that are now on their second or third cycle. Mixed in among these older homes is a steady wave of newer infill construction and teardown-rebuilds, especially near downtown Tucker, that bring in fiber-cement siding and higher-end architectural shingles alongside the older brick ranches next door.
This mix means we regularly quote very different jobs on the same street, a straightforward roof replacement on a 1960s ranch next to a full siding and trim package on a newer infill build, and we price each one according to the actual construction rather than assuming one standard for the whole neighborhood.
Roofing for Tucker's Older Homes
Many Tucker roofs are now on their second replacement since original construction, and older roof decking on 1950s-70s homes sometimes needs sistering or partial replacement, something that only becomes clear once the old shingles come off. Our roofing services crews check decking condition as a standard part of every tear-off rather than assuming it is fine, which avoids surprises mid-project. We install GAF and Owens Corning architectural shingle systems suited to these older roof pitches, most of which are simpler gable designs than the complex rooflines common in newer subdivisions.
Siding in Tucker
Original wood siding still shows up on some of Tucker's older homes, alongside aluminum siding from later updates and hardboard siding installed during 1990s-2000s renovations. Each of these ages differently, wood siding often has rot at trim joints and ground contact points, aluminum siding dents and fades, and hardboard siding swells and delaminates the same way it does across North Georgia. We replace all three with James Hardie fiber-cement siding, which holds up to Tucker's humidity better than any of the older products, or vinyl siding for a lower-cost update.
For older brick homes with wood trim that is structurally sound but faded or chalking, our painting crews use Sherwin-Williams exterior coatings to extend the life of that trim without a full siding replacement.
Gutters and Drainage
Tucker's mature tree canopy, especially around Henderson Park and the older established streets, means gutters fill quickly with leaves and pine debris. On older homes, original gutter systems are often undersized by current standards and overflow during heavy summer storms even before they clog. We install seamless gutters sized correctly for the roof, and recommend gutter guards for the heavily wooded lots that are common throughout Tucker's older neighborhoods.
Renovation Versus New Construction Pace
Working in Tucker means shifting between two very different paces in the same week, a careful renovation on an occupied 1960s ranch where the family is living in the home throughout the project, and a new construction siding package on an infill lot where the schedule is driven by the builder's overall timeline. We manage both without letting one type of job slow down the other, keeping dedicated crews assigned to each so scheduling stays predictable for both builders and homeowners.
Storm Damage and Insurance Claims
DeKalb County sees the same spring and summer hail and wind pattern as the rest of North Georgia, and older roofs in Tucker are often more vulnerable to storm damage simply due to age. After a storm, we inspect for shingle bruising, granule loss, and damaged flashing, document everything thoroughly, and manage the insurance claims process with the homeowner from the initial adjuster visit through final settlement.
Permits, Teardowns, and Scheduling
Tucker's incorporation as its own city means permits go through the City of Tucker rather than unincorporated DeKalb County in most cases, and we handle those applications and inspections directly. With the amount of infill and teardown-rebuild activity happening in Tucker, we also work alongside builders on new construction siding and roofing packages in addition to renovation work on existing homes, and we schedule around the different pace of new construction versus a straightforward re-roof or re-side.
Neighborhoods We Serve
We regularly work in Northlake, Tucker Heights, Idlewood, Henderson Park area, Main Street Tucker, and the newer infill streets throughout the city.
